Summary on Grant Application Form
This work will aim to develop an amperometric sensor which can detect the enantiomeric excess of a species in solution by measuring the electrochemical response of a chiral electroactive host. The work will built on our initial results in this area using chiral quaternary ammonium binaphthyl salts. We will highlight a small number of important target molecules and design the electroactive host using molecular modelling. When a suitable host has been synthesised it will be tested electrochemically and the solution interactions between host and substrate will be determined using 2D NMR spectroscopy.
