Summary on Grant Application Form
Abstract of proposed research (not exceeding 100 words) A vibrational analysis of a novel class of multistage rotary combustion engines, based on a system of non- inter differential-delay equations, is proposed. A new mechanism for maintaining a regular oscillatory motion superimposed on a steady rotation of the rotary pistons is proposed based on recent technological developments on the manufacture of robust non-circular gears and thepossibility of controlling the reactions on individual vanes. The analysis will determine torque coupling mechanisms, ignition and feedback controls that optimise performance and minimise vibrations including those responsible for the peak stresses on the inter-gearing system.
