Summary on Grant Application Form
Throughout the world, vehicle manufacturers are seeking cost-effective and environmentally acceptable ways to air condition vehicles. The proposed project describes a new air conditioning system which would be driven by heat and would use adsorption heat pipes. The first stage of the work programme will involve preliminary screening of different refrigerant/adsorbent combinations and computer modelling of the proposed system. Testing of selected refrigerant/adsorbent combinations will be carried out in the second stage of the work programme whiled the final stage will involve construction and monitoring of a prototype unit. The proposed air conditioning system would have potentially high performance and should be reliable, economically attractive and compact.
