Summary on Grant Application Form
Current concern over depletion of the ozone layer has stimulated research on environmentally-friendly' absorption systems. The proposed project aims to study a new type of absorption system based membrane separation. The work will involve testing a number of new working fluids and membranes using a small-scale rig and construction and testing of a prototype system. The environmental and economic benefits of the proposed system will also be assessed. The advantages of the proposed system over conventional absorption systems include higher coefficient of performance (COP), a wider range of operating temperature, physically more compact, minimal maintenance would be required, and lower capital cost since standard construction materials could be used.
