Tube bundles are used as a means of maintaining transmission pipes at a temperature sufficiently high to inhibit deposition of solid materials such as wax and hydrates. If these pipes are mounted inside an outer pipe which carries insulation/heating media, then it may be possible to recover a wider range of complex crude materials. Following an assessment study, Bristol University will develop computational models for steady-state and transient performance of tube bundles. Local behaviour in the cross section of the tube bundle will be evaluated using, say, a commercial CFD code (for example, CFX) but modelling of the overall system will need a separate computational development.
