Panel History:
Summary on Grant Application Form
In Sub-project A, the work proposed will be to continue generic developments (including work on integration of staggered and non-staggered grid simulations so as to use the most efficient algorithm for an appropriate region) and also to extend the work to incorporate geometric features such as valves, T-junctions, bends, etc. Solution algorithms for networks will also be investigated. In Sub-project B, methodologies will be developed for predicting stratified three-phase flows. These will involve a description of the flows as multi-layered flows consisting of layers of the individual phases separated by mixed layers at the phase interfaces. In Sub-project E, the major facility at Cranfield for investigation of flexible risers will be instrumented to measure transient loads to form an input into the associated analytical work to be carried out at Cambridge. In Sub-project F, the work on investigating the characteristics of flows in flexible risers will continue, covering a wider range of geometries and also to include 3-phase (oil/water/gas) flows.
