Summary on Grant Application Form
This proposal forms part of a co-ordinated project on Transient Multiphase Flow. The Department of Chemical Engineering and Chemical Technology at Imperial College will undertake work in 4 of the sub-projects of the co-ordinated projects. In sub-project A, the principal contribution from the Department will be to contribute experimental data using the WASP high pressure multiphase flow facility at the College. Specifically, it will be done on closure relationships for transient conditions and the provision of validation data for V-sections and T-junctions at high pressure. In sub-project B, the new instrumentation resources developed in the CMPT Managed Programme will be brought to bear on a wider range of 3-phase flows, again, using the WASP facility, and again with the objective of producing validation data. In sub-project C, experimental work will be carried out on models of tube bundles (ie, bundles of flow lines encased in an outer containing pipe) to validate CFD models being developed in parallel by Professor G L Quarini's team at the University of Bristol.
