Summary on Grant Application Form
The objective of this proposal is to demonstrate, for the first time, all-fibre systems for intra-cavity and ring-down cavity spectroscopy for application in trace gas monitoring. Recently both techniques have been demonstrated in conventional format for high-sensitivity absorption spectroscopy, but the introduction of fibres (with fibre lasers and amplifiers where appropriate) is entirely new and extends thier capibility. In the project, both intra-cavity absorption, where a micro-optic gas cell is incorporated within a fibre ring laser, and active or passive fibre ring-down cavities, where pulse decay is monitored, will be investigated theoretically and experimentally for quantitive gas measurements.
