Summary on Grant Application Form
Airports have a significant impact on the envionment both locally and globally, but also bring significant economic and social benefit to the regions they serve. The aviation industry has made considerable progress in developing new, more sustainable technologies and operating practices. Similarly academics are conducting research in the field of sustainable mobility, but as yet, there is little exchange of ideas between these groups and other experts in the field. The proposed network (SCAN-UK) will provide a forum for interchange of ideas, technologies, and reference material between the key players: academic experts; airports and airlines; local and central government.SCAN-UK will achieve its aims by: (1) establishing interactive databases on the internet containing data on: experts in the field of aviation and sustainability, centres of excellence, best practice, research data etc; (2) holding workshops to encourage debate and exhanchge of ideas and using internet based discussion groups; (3) promote new research activities in the field.MMU and Loughborough University will manage the network, databases, internet site and organise workshops and other meetings. A steering group will oversee the project and ensure objectives are met. Keywords describing areas of proposal.Aeronautics, Communications, Networks, Transport
