Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposed research is concerned with the conceptualisation, design, make and test of a novel palpation tool for minimal access surgery. The tool will consist of a pair of spatulated, articulated jaws lined with tactile sensory elements. Software will be developed to enable the surgeon to obtain useful palpation data. The tool will give back to the surgeon a sense-of-feel lost in MAS. The research will involve a wide spectrum of technologies and will be undertaken by a multidisciplinary team.
