Shear bands and ruptures affect the behaviour of particulate materials in a variety of engineering situations. The aim of the proposed research is to investigate, with reference to existing experimental data, the factors and mechanisms controlling shear band/ rupture formation zand development in granular materials, using advanced numerical three-dimensional particle model.
