Summary on Grant Application Form
ROPA - We have recently discovered a novel method for making epoxides from carbonyl compounds using diazocompounds and to make the process user-friendly we have discovered a method of generating these reactive intermediates in situ. This work is ongoing. We now wish to exploit this chemistry in a broad array of additional reactions. These include neutral alkylation of alcohols, direct cyclopropanation of alkenes, non-sulfur ylide mediated epoxidation and aziridination and homologation of ketones. We also propose to use this protocol in a new method for making polyalkyl branched chains in a living polymerisation reaction mediated by organoboranes.
