Summary on Grant Application Form
We aim to exploit molecular imprinting in the synthesis of heterogenous (polymeric) catalyst assemblies. These novel catalysts should mirror their homogenous counterparts. The will have uniform sites (from imprinting) and sufficient flexibility to accommodate co-ordination sphere reorganisation during the catalytic cycle. Complexes containing two reactive (polymerisable) ligands and a bidentate counter ion (enforcing cis geometry) will be copolymerised with non-co-ordinating monomer/crosslinker. A removable template (zinc) will be used in some experiments allowing synthesis of naked ligand assemblies (for reloading with any transition metal). Asymmetric synthesis (using recyclable chiral dianion to leave a chiral active site/synthetic enzyme will be investigated.
