Summary on Grant Application Form
ROPA - The UK is one of the world leaders in the development of polymer based light-emitting diodes. In addition, to understanding the solid state physics of the LEDs a fundamental factor in the success has been the development of new materials. Conjugated polymers are either prepared in soluble form, by attachment of lipophilic groups or an insoluble form. The latter polymers are generally prepared via a precursor polymer. This proposal aims to determine the utility of S- and O-alkyl xanthate for the preparation of poly(arylenevinylene) and poly(heteroarylenevinylene) polymers.
