There are a number of specific physics goals which will be addressed through gamma-ray spectroscopy of proton-rich nuclei populated with radioactive beams. The Staffordshire group has played a leading role in the study of mirror nuclei and n-p pairing in the f7/2 shell, and the continuation of this work to heavier masses requires the use of radioactive beams. The study of Coulomb energy differences in mirror nuclei yields valuable information on the spatial correlations of valence particles and can therefore be used as a sensitive probe of the structure of medium spin states for nuclei in the A=50-80 region. The study of proton rich members of isospin multiplets (e.g. the Tz=-1member of the T=1 triplet) is possible using radioactive beams for nuclei above A=50. These unique studies can shed light on the pairing correlations in the three members of the T=1 triplet and yield information on the competition between the nn, pp and np T=1 pairing modes. The signatures of the T=0 n-p pairing mode can also investigated through a more complete study of odd-odd N=Z nuclei. Staffordshire will also continue its collaboration in other studies of proton-rich systems along the N=Z line up to 100Sn.
