Summary on Grant Application Form
An instrument consisting of a segmented germanium detector and its electronics and data acquisition system will be developed. This instrument will be able to track gamma-rays as they scatter through the crystal and then reconstruct the initial gamma-ray energy and its interaction position. The system will be modelled using Monte Carlo.Techniques and measurements made to test its performance and the quality of the simulation. Once the system has been developed it will be used for physics measurements using relativistic Coulomb excitation. The Liverpool group will play a leading role in the measurements of he detector performance, the development of the electronics and the data acquisition system and the nuclear physics measurements.
