Summary on Grant Application Form
The programme is to design and construct an instrument for measuring instantaneous and time-average velocity in a plane. The application is the measurement of flow within a high speed compressor facility at Cranfield (available via a JREI grant). The technique to be employed is DGV using an injection seeded, frequency doubled pulsed Nd:YAG laser (available at Cranfield via a recent JREI grant). The light sheet formed will be imaged using flexible optical fibre endoscopis to overcome the problem of limited optical access. In the longer term the technique can be applied to other high speed unsteady/transient flows with limited and/or difficult optical access.
