The aim of the research is to investigate novel heterogeneous catalysts for partial oxidation of organic substrates using molecular O2. The main deliverable would be a generic process using O2 to functionalise organic compounds through the reductive activation of O2 using coupled reactions. Multifunctional catalysts would be designed and synthesised using various techniques, including MOCVD, to control the activation of O2 to generate electrophilic oxygen species (O*). Combination with an O*-capture step, would create a complete catalytic cycle for selective oxidation in which water was the only waste product.
