Summary on Grant Application Form
This research programme will build on initial results generated under a British Council funded collaboration with the Weizmann Institute in Israel. During this work we have reported the observation of a discrete spatial soliton in a non-linear wave-guide array. The present application will extend this research to carry out a study of discrete non-linear systems. This project will investigate a range of non-linear phenomena associated with discrete systems. We will use well qualified non-linearity of AlGaAs to fabricate a range of discrete samples use these to characterise resulting non-linear, localised states. In particular we will characterise the formation, interaction and polarisation nature of discrete spatial solitons.
