Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposed research will examine the relaxation dynamics in ultra-thin polymer films by measuring the dielectric loss in the samples over an extended temperature range. The importance of such measurements lie in their potential ability to help resolve many outstanding issues concerning the dynamical properties in thin polymer films. The experiments will combine novel sample designs with high sensitivity instrumentation to provide a resolution to a number of technical difficulties which have so far prevented such measurements from being performed.
