Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposal considers the development of a PSP system to enable the simultaneous capture of both temperature and pressure data. This will provide two major advantages for the optical measurement systems. Firstly, simultaneous temperature measurement will enable the temperature dependency of the paint's pressure response to be allowed for during testing, eliminating one of the major errors in contemporary PSP systems. Also, temperature measurements will be developed to enable heat transfer coefficients over the surface of a model to be evaluated, extending the capabilities of the paints. The advantages inherent in the PSP system developed by British Aerospace (Sowerby Research Centre) will be utilised to enable two methods of heat transfer measurement. In addition, the applicability of PSPs to unsteady pressure measurement will be examined briefly, making use of radical new paints developed by SRC with time responses suitable for measurement of pressure fluctuations over wind tunnel models.
