Summary on Grant Application Form
The effect of tailoring coordination pockets by using new sterically hindered ni-and tridentate donor ligands on the reactivity of complexes of di-and trivalent metals will be studied, including parameters such as substituent rigidity, chelate ring size, charge, and donor strength. Ligand types will include polydentate imines and pyrrols, phosphoranimines, and anionic phosphorus ylids. The latter will be designed to alllow a new mode of stereocontrol. A particular target will be cationic lanthanide complexes and an assessment of their potential as alkene polymerisation catalysts.
