Summary on Grant Application Form
The research concerns expansions of a structure M by an automorphism. Typically there is an amalgamation condition in the language of M with an additional symbol for an automorphism, and the theory of the expanded structure is a model companion (for the theory of M with automorphism), or the conjugacy class of the automorphism is comeagre in Aut M. We will tackle connections between various amalgamation conditions, and between different kinds of 'nice' automorphism, and try to find many expanded structures with good (for example, simple) theories. Genericity for automorphisms of separably closed and algebraically closed valued fields will be considered. We will look for applications to familiar questions about automorphism groups, concerning subgroups of small index, confinality, normal subgroup structure, and outer automorphisms.
