Summary on Grant Application Form
The aim of this project is to produce a technology road map that identifies the various transformational tools, the code types that they are designed for and their strengths and weaknesses. The production of such a roadmap will clearly identify the key areas for further collaborative research between NASA and the University of Southampton for the next few years. The assessment will include the identification of problems posed by the data structures and programming techniques used in legacy codes, not all of which are well handles by restructuring tools and the transformations they implement. It will also consider the analysis needed to help develop applications on computers with multiple levels of parallelism. Existing techniques to properly exploit the available memory hierarchies and techniques developed for SIMD and DMP systems will form the basis of this work.
