The programme is an investigation of the structure of light, neutron and proton-rich nuclei. The experimental studies will be performed at the GANIL/SPIRAL radioactive beam facility in France using break-up type reactions, and at the Australia National University using transfer reactions to populate neutron and proton-rich nuclei using stable beams. The spectroscopic properties of the exotic nuclei will measured using the technique of invariant mass spectroscopy, whereby the excitation energy and spins of the quantum mechanical states are reconstructed from the kinematics of the decay products.
