Summary on Grant Application Form
It is proposed that Dr Law will visit the research group of Professor Halonen in Hesinki for two weeks (from 6th September 1998) with a view to establishing a long term and effective collaboration in the rapidly developing field of high energy molecular vibration-rotation theory and overtone spectroscopy. During the visit Dr Law will present a talk and participate in a number of extended discussions with the individual members of Prof. Halonen's research group learning in detail about their current theoretical and experimental research activities. Discussions with Prof. Halonen will focus on: proposals for future collaborative research, including joint E.U. funding applications; opportunities for exchange of students and postdoctoral workers; and priorities for development of theoretical methodologies for tackling vibrational overtone problems. In the latter context the prospects for exact Hamiltonian variational calculations on 5-atomic molecules (such as the methyl halides) and determination of the corresponding molecular potential energy surfaces will be important issues.
