Summary on Grant Application Form
The main aim of this project is to develop mathematical models that describe the spatio-temporal heterogeneity that characterises vascular tumour growth. The proposal encompasses several active areas of mathematical research, such as mathematical modelling, spatio-temporal dynamics and numerical methods for solving mixed systems of equations. The principle challenge will be developing realistic models of vascular tumour growth. A crucial aspect of this will be successfully incorporating, at a macroscopic level, microscopic effects involving the vascular morphology. The models will provide a mathematical framework for predicting and comparing the effects and efficacy of anti-angiogenic therapeutic agents such as endostatin and angiostatin.
