Summary on Grant Application Form
We have recently shown that the Me3siCF3/KF/DMAc system is capable of reacting with activated aromatic substrates by the substitution of nitro and cyano groups with CF3. In contrast, the Me3SiCF3/Me4NF/MeCN system can act as a source of nucleophilic fluorine. In this project we will study the reactions of the Me3SiCF3/F-/ solvent systems with a range of aromatics with particular interest in their use for the preparation of valuable CF3- and F-substituted aromatics. Further studies will seek to determine the generality of the use of the promoted silanes for the preparation of substituted aromatics.
