|
The principle aim of this project is to produce more accurate, structured output from a large vocabulary continuous speech recognition system, working in the domain of broadcasting speech. In particular we wish to combine and compare techniques derived from rule-based natural language processing and statistical models of speech/language to develop more effective language models. We plan to use statistical models for named entity identification and punctuation both to produce a more structured output from a speech recogniser. Additionally we shall investigate globally constrained statistical models of language which may be combined with the local n-gram models that are currently used. A substantial emphasis will be placed on evaluation, both internationals (such as ARPA/NIST CSR. TREC/SDR and MUC or their successors) and internal. In particular our position of having state-of-the-art statistical and rule-based systems existing in a common software base will give us the opportunity to conduct a more detailed evaluation than is usually possible in international multi-site evaluations.
