Summary on Grant Application Form
This project is intended to improve the critical areas of software bid management and programme (i.e. project portfolio) management. Currently, the inaccuracy of early software estimates represent a serious risk to the financial solvency of companies producing software intensive products. This project aims to provide practical strategies for addressing this risk. The project will investigate the extent to which risk management incorporated into portfolio management is relevant to software companies during the bidding process. It is based on Kitchenham and Linkman's idea of holding project contingency(arising from risk exposure) in' a central fund and administering such a fund centrally. The project team intend to' investigate statistical' approaches to modelling risk used in the pharmaceutical and insurance industries in order to develop a rigorous underpinning of Kitchenham and Linkman's initial suggestions for software project portfolio. Keywords describing areas of proposal:Software risk, Project management, Portfolio management, Software estimation, Bidding
