Summary on Grant Application Form
A basic high-resolution metallographic study, carried out on high-purity alloys, to determine the mechanism of graphitisation in plain carbon steels to enable accerleration of the graphitisation kinetics and investigate the effect of alloying elements on this process. This could provide a route to the development of a new series of improved and economical cold-forging steels which would be more environmentally acceptable and more re-cyclable.
