Dielectric resonators are key components of microwave communication systems. Rapidly growing demand for microwave communications demands improved performance from materials that make up these devices. Two key areas are the low loss support structure and the ceramic dielectric. This project addresses the processing of these components. In order to produce supports from low loss Ti-doped alumina via powder pressing, suitable binder systems that do not adversely effect the dielectric loss must be identified and the processing route determined.Dielectrics based on CaTi (ME.RE) show great promise as a new dielectric resonator material. This project aims to optimise the processing of these materials in order to produce a dielectric with a dielectric constant of 42-47. Qxf of 50.000GHz (at ~5GHz) tuneable TCf. Adjustment of the caution rations will be requried to tune the TCf to the required level.
