Summary on Grant Application Form
The theory of atomic, molecular and optical physics (collisions, processes, structure) pervades and underlines much of modern physics, whether astrophysics, high-energy physics, condensed matter physics, physical chemistry, laser physics, upper atmosphere physics, plasma physics etc. Our grant comprises new fundamental science in light particle collisions, including Wannier doubly excited states below threshold and electron impact single ionisation and photon double detachment above threshold. Absolute differential and integrated cross sections will be obtained. The special problem of positron (above threshold) single ionisation will be addressed in terms of Wannier theory but with due allowance for the important intermediate channel of positronium following capture.
