Summary on Grant Application Form
The key role played by singularities (either at the moving boundary or in the analytic continuation of the solution) in dictating the evolution of wide classes of moving boundary problems is well-established. The proposed research seeks to develop and extend a variety of asymptotic (including 'beyond all orders') and complex variable methods intended to have broad applicability to such problems; this will be achieved by formulating and analysing appropriate model problems, a number of applications being studied. It is expected that the methods developed will be of significant value in the analysis of problems of industrial and engineering relevance.
