Summary on Grant Application Form
This research will explore the chemistry of novel bimetallic-alkyne complexes. In particular, it is planned to compare the differences in reactivity between cobalt and molybdenum complexes in cyclisation reactions. When the hetero-bimetallic species are used, the complexes are chiral and this will be used to access chiral organic products. Initial results suggest that this proceeds with complete selectivity. The use of bidentate ligands will also be addressed. These will provide a means of accelerating the reactions through stabilisation of key intermediates. The ultimate goal of this research is the production of optically enriched organic products via novel organometallic reagents.
