Summary on Grant Application Form
Multidimensional (nD) systems theory is the study of systems with trajectories which are functions of more than one parameters. It has a host of practical applications (see Beneficiaries) and also strong links to other fields, including multidimensional signal processing, convolutional coding, and commutative algebra. The aim of the proposed research is to apply the modern behavioural paradigm to the control of nD linear systems, an area in which there has been very little previous work. The behavioural theory has been highly successful in answering many nD systems questions, and offers an entirely new approach to the control problem. In this programme we plan to provide a sound theoretical base for further control work, and also to solve specific control problems such as pole placement and stabilisation.
