Summary on Grant Application Form
(1) Clean mechanical alloying and HIPing Ti-6%AL-4%V-0/0.5TiB alloys in temperature range 600-900 C to obtain consolidated material with a range of grain sizes.(2) Characterisation of superplastic forming properties on as-HIPed and HIPed + rolled material by uniaxial tensile testing and biaxial testing (blow-moulding) of simple shapes. (3) Characterisation by SEM, SIMS and TEM/PEELS analysis for boron and TiB distribution at the nanometre scale; hence to determine the role of boron on microstructural development as a function of processing conditions.(4) Clean mechanical alloying and HIPing Ti-6%Al-4%V-2.5vol%TiB and Ti-15%V-3%Cr-3%Al-3%Sn-2.5vol%TiB alloys and the characterisation of their microstructures and superplastic forming properties as above.
