Summary on Grant Application Form
The main purpose of the proposed Bath-Cambridge-Kent-Met Office collaborative project is to advance the study of algorithms for the computational solution of partial differential equations with important applications, through the incorporation of qualitative techniques into the algorithm. The Kent contribution will centre on the extension of algorithms for nonclassical reductions to Monge-Ampere equations, and to apply the results to the semi-geostrophic flow equations. The symmetries thus obtained will be used as input to the application of adaptive grid methods.Secondly we wish to investigate symmetries of the semi-geostrophic flow equations which are valid only asymptotically.
