Summary on Grant Application Form
We will design and manufacture a large-area (50cmx60cm)-positron camera for applications to Medical Imaging and Engineering. The camera will consist of two annihilation photon detectors, each consisting of large-area barium fluoride crystals coupled to novel multowire proportional chambe4s. The camera will be interfaced to a sun SUN SPARC 10 work-station through a new acquisition/control system. Novel algorithms will be used to convert list-mode acquisition data into quantitative whole-body images and ultimately to parametric images of tracer kinetics. Correction methods for attenuation, scatter, non-uniformity, accidents and dead-time will be applied. Applications of the system to several clinical research projects will prove the benefit of this technology.
