Summary on Grant Application Form
Synthesis of transition metal oxides by eletrochemical crystallisation is an extremely powerful technique, and far from being fully exploited. The aim of the project to develop a general purpose reactor cell and investigate how the various media/current conditions effects the products. This will be of great interest to the chemistry community and lead to the synthesis of many new and novel early transition metal oxides. It will be combined with detailed physical property measurements, synthesised by both electrochemical crystallisation and other more conventional techniques. Low dimensional systems will be focused upon and how increasing the dimensionality changes the magnetic order and/or susceptibility to electron localisation.
