Summary on Grant Application Form
The research programme will consist of four work packages:A review of the state-of-the-art of zero failure rate electronics to determine how they might be used in automobiles.Metrics for performance in design, engineering and manufacture will be established for a benchmark automobile. The electrical and electronic systems will be critically reviewed and critical body in white features identified.Novel body in white concepts that utilise zero failure electronics will be created by modifying the design of the benchmark vehicle. The novel concepts will be evaluated for performance in design, engineering and manufacturing. A benefit analysis will establish where the development of zero failure electronics will provide the most benefit to vehicle designers.
