Summary on Grant Application Form
The continuous wavelet transform represents one of the most significant advancements in signal processing in the twentieth century. Using wavelets as a basis for constructing nonlinear models allows localisation in both time and frequency and the main aim of this research study is to develop these ideas. This will involve introducing a new discrete wavelet model framework for nonlinear systems, developing algorithms for model construction, and bench testing the procedures on both chaotic and non-chaotic data sets. The analysis of time series which exhibit both short and long term trends, and non stationary will also be studied along with data segmentation procedures. Throughout the new algorithms will be bench tested on both simulated and real industrial data sets.
