Summary on Grant Application Form
This collaborative proposal which involves the Lancaster communications research centre(LCRC) and NORWEB Communications(NC) is concerned with the investigation, design and implementation of high-speed (>10Mb/s) LANs operating over LVEDN and covering distances in the range of a hundred meters or so. It is proposed that the effects of various house hold appliances, which may influence the behaviour of the LVEDN channel, be investigated with the aim of producing a LVEDN power model related to the spectrum and service area. The programme will aim to characterise the available spectrum of the LVEDN channel over a range of operating conditions. This will then be used to design and implement a multifunctional coding scheme for network applications. A DSP based PTL modem will be developed especially for the PTL networks.
