Summary on Grant Application Form
Shadows can make it very difficult to image a natural scene satisfactorily. The problem arises because the shadows create a high dynamic range by causing variations in the amount of light, which is reflected from different parts of a scene. High-dynamic range pixels have been manufactured, but their performance is made unacceptable by variations between individual pixels, which create speckling in the output image. The proposed research will lead to a device, which can used to overcome this problem. The result will be a camera, which can be used for future consumer products and machine vision systems. Furthermore, these devices can be used within other analogue circuits to overcome similar problems. It will therefore enhance the performance of many different analogue circuits.
