Summary on Grant Application Form
We propose to use state of the art Brillouin light scattering system in order to :(1) carry out in situ Brillouin light scattering (BLS) studies of the evolution of magnetic anistrophies and interface magnetism in strained thin film structures prepared by MBE together with supporting MOKE and structural studies.(2) to study exchange coupling at ferromagnetic/antiferromagnetic interfaces, e.g. exchange biased structures including oxide/FM structures via the spin wave spectrum.(3) to study the effect of lateral size and shape on the spin wave frequency of sub-micron structures, thin film elements and ultrathin film nanostructures. The investigation is highly relevant to an understanding of the dynamic magnetic reversal process in small sensor elements and magnetic devices.
