Summary on Grant Application Form
The project proposal is based on the reasonable assumption that, for a particular soil, there is a relationship between drilling resistance (applied torque, power and rate of penetration) and pile strength. The research will be completed in four work packages at Surrey University and four at Lancaster. The Surrey work focuses on the necessary theoretical soil mechanics which will enable the process changes. The Lancaster work focuses on site implementation and the monitoring of the process implications. The Lancaster work packages are as follows:1. Design and implementation of a data collection system on a previously instrumented CFA rig.2. Design, implementation, testing and integration of Just-in-Time design hardware and software systems and user interface.3. Computer programming of the Just-in-Time design procedure.4. Design and administration of a comparison between a conventionally designed site and that using the proposed system.
