Summary on Grant Application Form
A nonlinear method for computing the combined unsteady aero-structural response of a wing i transonic flow will be developed, with application to flutter boundary prediction. The method will combine an existing efficient solver for unsteady flows with moving meshes and modal/FE structural model. 'Strong' coupling of the aero and structural methods will be achieved by use of the dual-time approach. Fully nonlinear, 'datum' solutions will be obtained. A preliminary investigation of the effects of linearised and semi-linear methods for the flow prediction will be carried out. The effects of some types of structural nonlinearities on the coupled response will also be examined.
