Summary on Grant Application Form
We propose new studies to develop the chemistry of strongly co-ordinating triphosphine ligands based upon a macrocyclic core as well as analogous, rigid (non-tripodal) ligands systems. The synthesis of new ligands will be performed so as to enable the investigation of ring size effects and chiral ligands upon the behaviour of complexes. Chirality will be incorporated in two ways including chirality at substituent groups as well as of the ligand as a whole. In this way we intend the design and application of ligands with chiral pockets. The behaviour of the new complexes in reactions of relevance to catalysis will be investigated and catalytic trials will be performed, in part in collaboration with industry.
