Summary on Grant Application Form
The application of higher levels of information processing in the UK water industry is in its infancy. Many companies still process manually their asset documentation. The data obtained by on-line and off-line measurements are not quality controlled or at best this is done manually. Domestic water consumption is rarely metered. The investment in hardware and software has not been complemented by data validation and uncertainty tests. Data quality assessment, if at all, is done manually. This project will deal with the detailed analysis of data quality, to develop and test the methods of semi-automatic data screening of both raw data, the data for state assessment (to be co-ordinated with Brunel University) and hydrodynamic and operational management simulation. The results of the analysis will enable IC and BU teams to conceptualize quality assurance procedures. Several target oriented data acquisition systems such as for waste balance, transit flow analysis for inverse problem solution and conditional sampling for operational management DSS will initiated. A selected area within Anglian Water will be used for a joint development and testing of the interfaces with Logica. The results will contribute to a paradigm shift in data handling for advanced operational management in UK Water Industry.
