There is an increasing demand for new and advanced materials, due to rapid improvement and minimisation of electronic and electrochemical devices. This proposal concerns the development and investigation of multianionic phospazenates, a novel type of hybrid material combining properties of electronic and magnetic solids with the flexibility of elastomeric polymers. The structural principle of the proposed systems is based on a negatively charged inorganic backbone covered by an organic surface and accommodating a positively charged metal core. While the backbone is holding together the overall structure, the properties of the final product are defined by organic side-groups (flexibility/shape) and complex metal centres (electronic/magnetic characteristics), which both can widely be varied following a wide range of applications. The research will initially deal with corresponding molecular complexes, which are easy to study and therefore important model compounds mimicking the behaviour of polymeric counter parts. Subsequently, based on these findings the polymeric material will be generated and its properties investigated. Inexpensive precursors representing basic industrial chemicals, and straightforward synthetic routes, which consist of only a few key steps, facilitate cost-effective production of proposed materials.
